How to Join a Pottery Workshop at Pottery LA

1. Choose a class format

Pottery LA offers several options:

• a standard pottery class with hand-building and wheel throwing ($90)

• a class with painting and glazing included ($130)

• classes for couples, birthdays and corporate events

2. Book your spot

Typical class times are 10:00, 12:00, 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM, 6:00 PM, and 8:00 PM, depending on the day.

Our classes are suitable for children 3 years old and over, teenagers and adults with any level of experience.

3. Arrive on time

Please arrive at your scheduled class time.
There’s no need to come earlier.

When you arrive:

• the staff will welcome you and show you where to sit

• the instructor will explain how the class will work

This is especially helpful if it’s your first time working with clay.

Step 4. Short introduction from the instructor

Before you start, the instructor will explain:

• How clay works

• Basic pottery techniques

• How to use the pottery wheel (if included)

No experience needed. You’ll get help the whole time.

Step 5. Start creating

This is the main part of the class.

Step 5.1 — Shaping the clay
You start forming your piece by hand or on the wheel.

Step 5.2 — Working on the pottery wheel (if chosen)
The instructor helps you center the clay and shape it step by step.

Step 5.3 — Adding details
You can add handles, textures, or small design details.

Step 6. Helpful tips

• Don’t worry if it’s not perfect

• Ask questions — the instructor is there to help

• Relax and enjoy the process

• Take photos — pottery looks great on Instagram 😏

Step 7. Paint and decorate (if included)

If your class includes painting:

• Choose colors

• Paint your piece

• Make it personal

This part is relaxed and fun — no pressure.

Step 8. Drying and firing

After the class:

• Your piece stays in the studio

• It dries and gets fired in the kiln

This process usually takes 2–3 weeks.

Step 9. Pick up your finished piece

When your pottery is ready, it will appear on the studio’s “Clay Products Are Ready” page. Once you see your item on the list, you can come to the studio and pick up your finished, fired piece. Yes — you take it home.
